 I sold my car 15 months ago -- I haven't missed it at all. I was paying for a private parking garage 2.5 blocks from my place, but barely drove it, but it was a nice luxury to have it. As I was sometimes driving it simply because it was sitting for too long, I decided to sell it because it was costing me ~$5k annually just to have it (but I did like the front wheel drive MINI Cooper). For the past 15 months I've been walking everywhere, pre-COVID, I would take Lyft and Muni at times, but never once in the past 15 months have I regretted selling my car. Renewing registration is key, because if any minor incident happens, you're facing serious problems -- which was the root of your problems here (the stamp was a little coincidental bad luck).

  This really sucks, I’ve been there more than I’d like to admit. Curious why you didn’t just pay your registration though...your lack of a permanent address is kinda irrelevant. No matter what, the Jeep is still registered to your previous/current address. It’s not like the registered address just goes blank if you don’t pay your tags. Regarding smog, they give you a month to get a smog test once you pay the fees, and temporary tags until then. The DMV Registration tags expiring, that's on him. He can't blame the city, state, etc. for that. Renewing registration is key, because if any minor incident happens, you're facing serious problems -- which was the root of origin of the problems here (the stamp was a little coincidental bad luck).  I once had my car stolen by the city, back in the old city tow days when it wasn't administered directly by the city. Car was stolen from a legit parking spot. During the tow, they broke the fuel line. So not only did I have to pay $400 (1996 dollars) to get it out, I had to pay for a tow truck to haul out my now-broken car. PITA. A good idea. Someone should definitely take that on. I'm surprised no one has brought up that Bobby Lee thing. I remember in an episode of Tiger Belly that exact thing happened. They were named by multiple people in accusations, including by one here on Reddit. They were allegedly hitting people up for D’elia.
