Yeah, I think most don't want to go back to shutdown. What scares me is the reopening of larger social activities like schools, group events etc. If case counts stay high, it seems really hard to balance safety measures and infection control. Both too costly and not effective enough. So if the only goal is limit infections and deaths from the virus, then a shutdown makes sense. But it’s a very blunt force tactic that has a lot of repercussions in other areas, so it’s not something to be used lightly. I think they’re hard to justify unless hospitals are clearly going to get overwhelmed, and we’re not quite there yet. We might be in a few weeks, or a few months, but right now I think we’re still at the point where trying masks/testing/tracing as the primary way to fight it still makes sense.

  This really sucks, I’ve been there more than I’d like to admit. Curious why you didn’t just pay your registration though...your lack of a permanent address is kinda irrelevant. No matter what, the Jeep is still registered to your previous/current address. It’s not like the registered address just goes blank if you don’t pay your tags. Regarding smog, they give you a month to get a smog test once you pay the fees, and temporary tags until then. The DMV Registration tags expiring, that's on him. He can't blame the city, state, etc. for that. Renewing registration is key, because if any minor incident happens, you're facing serious problems -- which was the root of origin of the problems here (the stamp was a little coincidental bad luck).  I once had my car stolen by the city, back in the old city tow days when it wasn't administered directly by the city. Car was stolen from a legit parking spot. During the tow, they broke the fuel line. So not only did I have to pay $400 (1996 dollars) to get it out, I had to pay for a tow truck to haul out my now-broken car. PITA. A good idea. Someone should definitely take that on. I'm surprised no one has brought up that Bobby Lee thing. I remember in an episode of Tiger Belly that exact thing happened.
