Wow, what an epic story filled with moments of elation and despair. You experienced the bowels of SF bureaucracy and survived! I could feel my heart rate increase just reading this and never want to go through what you did. I’m sorry that this string of shitty things happened to you, and I’m also glad that things worked out!! In the beginning of the story, it made me laugh that they took their sweet ass time to even come out to you, but expected you to answer the phone within 30 minutes at any given time. But then as the story progressed I just wanted to buy you a beer. Right? The impound lot is farther from the TL than the hayes valley address it was stolen from.

  This really sucks, I’ve been there more than I’d like to admit. Curious why you didn’t just pay your registration though...your lack of a permanent address is kinda irrelevant. No matter what, the Jeep is still registered to your previous/current address. It’s not like the registered address just goes blank if you don’t pay your tags. Regarding smog, they give you a month to get a smog test once you pay the fees, and temporary tags until then. The DMV Registration tags expiring, that's on him. He can't blame the city, state, etc. for that. Renewing registration is key, because if any minor incident happens, you're facing serious problems -- which was the root of origin of the problems here (the stamp was a little coincidental bad luck).  I once had my car stolen by the city, back in the old city tow days when it wasn't administered directly by the city. Car was stolen from a legit parking spot. During the tow, they broke the fuel line. So not only did I have to pay $400 (1996 dollars) to get it out, I had to pay for a tow truck to haul out my now-broken car. PITA. A good idea. Someone should definitely take that on. I'm surprised no one has brought up that Bobby Lee thing. I remember in an episode of Tiger Belly that exact thing happened. They were named by multiple people in accusations, including by one here on Reddit. They were allegedly hitting people up for D’elia.
